Q. Why isn’t my pump suctioning as well?
A. Stronger suction can be achieved by folding the flange back, squeezing the pump, placing it centrally on your breast, and then releasing it. Body changes after birth and regular wear over time can also affect suction strength.
Q. What are the benefits of using a Haakaa breast pump?
A. Haakaa pumps are made from 100% silicone and are hands-free, silent, one-piece, and travel-sized. They can be used to express milk manually or catch let-down while breastfeeding.
Q. How do I use my Haakaa pump?
A. Sterilise the pump first. Place the flange over your nipple, apply suction by squeezing the base, collect the milk, then empty and store the milk correctly after use.
Q. Can Haakaa be used as a primary pump?
A. Yes — while many mums use it mainly to catch let-down, it can also be used manually as a primary pump to express milk when let-down is achieved properly.
Q. Why am I not getting much milk?
A. Milk output varies for every individual. Using a warm cloth, massaging your breast, or expressing while breastfeeding on the other side can help stimulate let-down and improve milk yield.
Q. Why does my pump feel uncomfortable?
A. Too much suction or incorrect placement may cause discomfort. Try reducing suction by squeezing the base less and make sure the flange is positioned correctly for a comfortable fit.
Q. Why isn't my pump suctioning on as well as before?
A. If your pump is not suctioning as well as before, try increasing the suction by folding the flange back, squeezing the bottom of the pump firmly, centering it over your nipple, unfolding the flange, and then releasing it. Holding or cupping your breast while attaching the pump can also help it grip a larger area more effectively. If it still does not suction properly, the silicone may have worn over time due to frequent use and sterilisation. Since silicone can lose suction strength over time, some mums may need to replace their pump after a few months, while others may use it for years depending on usage and care.
Q. My pump is becoming sticky, what can I do?
A. Silicone can sometimes attract particles or absorb smells and colours. We recommend hand washing the breast pump under hot, soapy water using a slightly rough sponge and gently scrubbing the exterior. This usually helps remove the sticky feel.
